Agreement of two developments secured by WYG

Planning approval for 327 homes in Choppington, and 16 homes in the Newbrough green belt has been secured by planning consultancy WYG’s Newcastle team.

The Choppington scheme for approval was recommended for approval by Northumberland County Council.

On behalf of Dysart Developments Ltd and Arch Developments, WYG prepared, and submitted the applications.

WYG also stood in as the project manager and undertook public consultation for the scheme.

The council didn’t consider contributing due to a viability appraisal submitted alongside the application implying an affordable housing contribution would make the scheme unrealistic.

The 327 homes were collectively approved by the planning committee at the council.

On behalf of Partner Construction Ltd, 12 affordable homes, and four open market homes were proposed by WYG at Butt Bank in Newbrough.

Limited to providing affordable housing within Newbrough, a £400,000 grant was donated by a local family.

The scheme was recommended for approval by the council’s planning officer, saying that the;

“requirement for affordable housing in this location and the circumstances outlined in relation to this above outweighed the potential harm caused by the visual impact on the development”.

For the lifespan of the development, the permission is question to a section 106 agreement to safeguard the delivery of 75% affordable rented accommodation.
