Principle approval has been granted to a major redevelopment site in Maidenhead as part of a broader scheme to regenerate the town.
The scheme, located on the banks of Maidenhead waterways includes;
- 229 homes alongside,
- community space,
- food and café outlets.
The York Road site is the first of 4 plans under a joint venture between Countryside and the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead to develop more affordable homes.
The 68 homes, as well as an additional 20 affordable homes will be for;
- shared ownership,
- affordable rent set at local housing allowance levels,
- social rent.
Commercial space is also included in the scheme for food and drink outlets and a new home for Maidenhead Heritage Centre.
In spring 2019 construction is anticipated to begin.
Simon Dudley, Council leader, explained the scheme as;
“a major milestone for Maidenhead’s regeneration”.
