Phase one plans of a £49 million scheme in Skelmersdale have been approved by West Lancashire Borough Council.

The development is set to provide a total of 299 homes, with 120 to be developed in the first phase, valued at £20.7 million.

120 two, three and four-bedroom homes at Whalleys Road, Whalleys South will be provided by a partnership between Trafford Housing Trust and L&Q Development, Laurus Homes.

Of the 120, 15 dwelling are anticipated to be adjustable for the elderly, and 36 will be designated for shared ownership and affordable rent.

Homes England’s competitive tender to develop the site was won by THT and L&Q Developments LLP.

The development director at Trafford Housing Trust, Graeme Scott, said:

“The development of this site is key to the regeneration of Skelmersdale, improving housing choice in the area and wider economic growth ambitions for West Lancashire.”

With work planned to begin in the summer, Turley acted as planning consultant for the applications, and Seddon Construction has been appointed to build the scheme.
