The Taunton Deane Borough Council has approved proposals for an urban extension in the area. The extension will be predominantly residential with potentially 2000 new houses, 25% of which will be affordable housing.
“The scheme is in line with the planning authority’s approved Core Strategy.”
Included in the proposed plans is a “park and bus” facility as well as:
- • A potential 5.25-hecteres of employment land
- • A primary school
- • A community centre
- • A spine road
The group who have been developing the project consists of:
“Taylor Wimpey UK, Mactaggart & Mickel Ltd, Bovis Homes Ltd and Summerfield Developments.”
The following conditions are involved in the development:
- • A phasing strategy from the developers
- • A place-making strategy from the developers
- • A neighbourhood master plan
- • A design guise for the entire project
Included in the confirmed conditions is that the development can not be engaged up to the point of the spine road that will be offering an access point to the development has been built.
Included in these terms is that before the primary school and pre-school are built in the development only a maximum of 350 houses may be in use.
Although the development has already been being planned for the past three years, before the development can seek full planning permission, the already existing plans need to be polished and there must be meetings with the community.
